Anne Chamblin: “Banana Booty Boogie Baby”
In 1994 I was bouncing around from boy to boy, as usual. And then I met this special, fun, cool boy named Tim.
I was hesitant at first because of my serial dating problem. I probably said with pouty-kiss-me lips, “You don’t want to go out with me—I have a boy problem.” I was worried that I would get too attached and not be able to move on. My other thoughts were, I like this guy too much to break his heart.
Well, anyway, we went out for about a year and we had a blast, and then I can’t remember why it ended. I wonder if he remembers? I think I’ll have to give him a call. He now lives in Brooklyn and is with a girl I have known since high school—she’s great! Back to the story: During our time as a “couple,” he made me a couple of tapes, they are all totally incredible, but this one is by far the funniest one.
The songs are really good. I love a tape that has so much variety. I still listen to my tapes. They are like time capsules—take me back to those good times, a flashback in virtual reality—all because of a song and a mixed tape. Yeah Buddy!!! I still have two tape players in the house and one in my car. I also have two old style open-the-box record players in the house. I still go out and buy records at thrift stores. The only thing I don’t have is a way to make mixed tapes.
Tim had the best record collection. Just take a listen and you shall see.

The Wedding Present: Dare |

A native and current resident of Richmond, Virginia, Anne Chamblin is a home girl. She makes art in the style of paintings, and also makes ceramics. After much shopping she has finally settled down with husband Clay, and has two children, Finn and Georgia. With them, she makes glitter paintings and large robot outfits from cardboard.

They were into you, so they made you a tape. Today you don't have a cassette player, but you still can't toss that mix. We share the stories and the soundtrack to your earliest loves.
Hello,
I just wanted to say congratulations on what must be the most original idea for a music blog I have ever encountered. Very much enjoying it.
All the best,
Ian TB

Go Anne! Go Anne!
fIREHOSE, Brian Eno, Motley Crue, NWA, Ween… It’s one hell of a Rock Festival. Everyone gets up on stage with a guitar and plays The Wedding Present song from this tape. Forty Five synchronized guitar solos. What a great tape.
The fIREHOSE song is “Soon” if you’re curious. :)
Amcham! This is so cool! Somebody sent me the link thinking I would like it, and it was by you -surprise!
